Those first few weeks of Caroline's life - fraught with feedings every 2-3 hours, swaddle after broken swaddle, hours of walking laps, bouncing and singing fight songs to calm the screaming, laying half out of the bed to hold the pacifier in, dragging her all over the house in the little rocking bed - seemed to last years. Now those weeks seem years away. But, in fact, it has been ONE year!
ONE amazingly challenging but rewarding year. ONE year of physical and developmental growth and hundreds of "first" milestones. ONE year of more love than I ever knew I could possess or receive.
We are blessed beyond belief by the Lord who has given us this precious life.
Caroline, at 1 year old you...
1. Are less interested in being carried. Put me down and let me WALK. You are very steady on your feet. People often think you are older than you are because of how well, and how long, you've been walking.
2. Have 6 teeth, 3 bottom and 3 top. You constantly have your finger shoved way back in your mouth. I wonder if you are working on molars.
3. Are beginning to point at things you want or are interested in.
4. Have not mastered a sippy cup yet. We've tried several different kinds, but you are not committing to any yet. I am getting nervous as our time to BF is rapidly coming to an end and we need to fully transition to whole milk. I am expecting some tough days ahead. You have sipped out of Mommy's cup a few times.
5. Are shy around certain men. Anytime Aunt Julie and Uncle Zach visit you act sheepish around Uncle Zach.
6. Show more interest in loving on your stuffed animals - mainly your pink bear and the cream bear Daddy got you for Valentine's.
7. Sign "milk", "more" and "all done" and wave bye-bye.
8. Pat Mom and Dad on the back when we pick you up, especially in the morning when Daddy gets you out of bed.
9. Struggle with a constant runny nose and cough...possibly from allergies.
10. Babble a lot but only a few discernible words: yea, hyee, dada, bye-bye.
11. Climb on the hearth and give everyone heart attacks when you try to get down. Also trying to climb into the tub at bath time. I'm afraid this may only be a glimpse at what is coming.
12. Sleep about 11 hours, up to nurse, and back down until Daddy takes you to school. You would probably sleep straight through the morning feeding most days if I left you alone. You do not take naps (maybe one 20 min) at school. Bed time is around 7:30.
13. Wear 9 and 12 mo clothes. Some 9mo are tight but some 12mo are still way too big on top. You wear size 2 shoe and 3 diaper.
14. Have a lively, happy, joyful, outgoing personality.
15. Pull a scarf or blanket off your head when we play "Where is Caroline?," clap your hands when we play "Patty Cake."
16. Bounce when you like something.
17. Eat most things you are offered.
18. Love water bottles and your bath ducky.
19. Are opening cabinet doors - we really need to get those locks on.
20. Are kind, smart, and important.
21. Are loved.
These pictures were taken when you were about 11months old. You had just started taking independent steps. We took the pictures in a park close to our house when Aunt Julie came for a visit. You were very interested in watching the people and dogs at the park. We used the top right picture for your birthday party invitation.
Edit: At Caroline's 12mo check-up on April 17, she weighed 17.5lbs. I am beginning to recognize more of a resemblance to me. It definitely seems that she got my frame. She's small but mighty! :)
